As a freelance writer, I encounter many clients who don't understand the difference between web copy and web content. What's worse? Some freelance writers don't understand the difference between web copy and web content.
Web content is everything you read or see on a website. You're reading web content right now. The image above is also considered web content.
Web copy is written to encourage readers to buy a product or service. You're not reading web copy right now because I'm not selling you anything.
Web content is informative, engaging and/or educational - and it encompasses web copy since it's contained on a web site.
Web copy is simply a facet of web content.
Have all your clients fill out a web content questionnaire before beginning work so you know what you're getting into.
