How to get freelance writing jobs

Whether you're just starting out as a freelance writer or need to expand your current freelance writing business, you need to know how to get freelance writing jobs.

There are several ways to get freelance writing jobs, and you might find your best results come from making your own special hybrid of each method.

How to get freelance writing jobs in person

No matter how many people you talk to in a day, you should be telling each of them that you're a freelance writer.  They may not each have an assignment for you, but they might know someone who does.  A few weeks ago I wrote about the importance of business cards for freelance writers - every person you meet should get one.

Don't underestimate the importance of networking the old-fashioned way: face-to-face.

How to get freelance writing jobs online

You can scour the job postings on your favorite sites, scour the want ads where people post gigs regularly and enter "write for us" in your search box - and those are just the tip of the iceberg.

Social networking online can also help your business grow by leaps and bounds; tell everyone you're a writer and promote your services to online friends.

Think about advertising your freelance writing services as a business.  Your opportunities are only limited by the amount of work you're willing to put in.

How to get freelance writing jobs through advertising

You can place classified ads without paying a penny, advertise on free classified sites and use Google AdWords for a small investment.  Whatever you choose to do, make sure you set time aside for self-promotion - that's where most of your business will likely come in.
